Mercedes F1 Boss finally responds to rumors. Toto Wolff who has lately been linked with a move away from his current team turned the volume down on all those rumors saying that he is fully committed to working with Mercedes “until the end of 2020”
The response has arrived amid reports of a falling-out within the team. Other suggestions fueling the reports came from the retired F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone who believed Lawrence Stroll and Toto Wolff have a special friendship that could see Wolff leave his current team for Stroll’s reinvigorated F1 team which by 2021 will begin its work under a new constructor name of Aston Martin.
Despite removing some uncertainty surrounding his contract, Wolff made it clear “nothing will change in the short term.” After reading his statements, one may ask what he means by ‘short term’. From the looks of it, it means he is definitely leaving. No one in their right mind wants to use the words short term to describe a healthy relationship between them and a concerned party.
While acknowledging the fact that there are good discussions underway for a contract renewal, he also stressed on the urgency to deal with the more important “human problems” the companies are facing nowadays.
In response to questions regarding his maturing relationship with Lawrence Stroll, he said they are business partners because Mercedes is Racing Point’s engine supplier. Considering how he tackled all the questions, there is little chance of contract rumors going away for good. The F1 season has not started yet which means there is plenty of time for contract discussions to continue.
