Scuderia AlphaTauri

Scuderia AlphaTauri

The truth about the modern-day Scuderia AlphaTauri (formerly Toro Rosso) is that it goes way back to when it used to be an Italian race car team. It was founded by Giancarlo Minardi. The constructor team was born in 1979 and has built a reputation amongst its fans for being non-corporate and close to the true essence of Formula One. Red Bull, its current owner, came into the mix around 2005. They changed the name from Minardi F1 Team to Scuderia Toro Rosso. The name has once again been changed to Scuderia AlphaTauri for the 2020 F1 season. It is very convenient to get a negative view about this team with the history of name changes it carries with it. The fact is Scuderia AlphaTauri has made F1 fans fall in love with its raw methods to compete.

Keeper of the Formula One Essence

If afforded a little more time and investment, the now Scuderia AlphaTauri could be competing for the top spots. They had been playing as sort of the ‘second’ team of Red Bull thereby producing and testing the drivers who if performed well enough could move to the Red Bull Racing team to drive among the ‘elite’. But that is going to change in 2020. They have the potential to make it to the top. The initial promise that they have shown over the years has taken them to the point of being an independent constructor that does not have to overly rely on people at the top. They can now move forward with the kind of purpose and passion that is fundamental to winning an F1 championship.

Years of Racing

2006 – 2010

The year of 2006 was difficult for Scuderia AlphaTauri because they had to make do with the resources they had from the last season. Vitantonio Liuzzi and Scott Speed took the responsibility to drive for Scuderia AlphaTauri in the first year of Formula 1 racing. They did okay. In 2007, they had to use the Ferrari 056 V8 engine which was left by the senior team. Sebastian Vettel also appeared in the race for them to replace Scott Speed who had to leave the race due to some controversial circumstances. The biggest highlight came at the Chinese Grand Prix where the Toro Rosso team driver Vettel finished at fourth place.

2008 is probably the best year of AlphaTauri’s career. The year featured Sebastian Vettel and Sebastian Bourdais as Toro Rosso’s drivers. Vettel was so good this season that he actually managed to perform way better than the senior Red Bull team drivers. Sebastian Vettel then got promoted to the senior team because of his impressive performances. It got a little tough for Toro Rosso in the next few years since Vettel left.

2011 – 2020

Sebastian Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari became the driving pair for Toro Rosso beginning their tenure in 2010. The two raced in the Formula 1 for another two seasons after which Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne took over the driving ranks at Toro Rosso. The team still struggled to get in the top five. Their struggles continued until 2013. In 2013, the drivers improved really dramatically. Ricciardo in particular did really well the whole year and later in 2014 got a chance to drive for Red Bull Racing F1 Team. Max Verstappen is another name that comes up in the potentially better seasons of Toro Rosso between the last ten years.

The biggest reason for their suffering has to be the lack of goal-achieving environment within the team. The team thought of themselves as the second best to the first team. That made them intrinsically inclined to not try as hard as they could. Starting in 2020, the team is coming with a new style which is expected to turn a lot of heads in the Formula One World. We can expect to see Toro Rosso’s potential fully utilized. They did change the name to signify a big change in their performance this year.

Future of Scuderia AlphaTauri (formerly Scuderia Toro Rosso)

In 2019, they finished the season at sixth place with a total of 85 points. The exposure and image of the team have been made even better with the ever so needed presence of a character like Sebastian Vettel who is known for scoring their first podium and eventually a victory at the 2008 Italian Grand Prix. The time Vettel spent here has made Toro Rosso a team that is capable of doing the same things Ferrari and Mercedes have been able to do forever.

Evaluation of AlphaTauri’s Chances

Most of the winners in the Formula 1 have found the right mentality to deny people the chance to judge them as anything but winners. The best example we see so far in the formula is of Lewis Hamilton who continues to show hunger and promise to compete every year. As long as the hunger to win remains in Hamilton, no one can take his place as the best in Formula 1. It would be remiss though to say that Hamilton alone does it. The chemistry that exists within the team has much to do with Hamilton doing it over and over again, without showing any signs of slowing down.

In order to improve, the formerly Scuderia Toro Rosso will have to develop trust within the team, learn from their mistakes every year and improve on the little details that matter like the aerodynamics of the front-end, the car’s center of gravity, engine efficiency, then the team and its loyal fans are in for a treat – we could be seeing Scuderia Alpha Tauri score the most number of points in the F1 standings in a couple of years from now if not next year.

The idea is to build a team with trust and purpose. Currently, Pierre Gasly and Daniil Kvyet have been chosen to drive for the Scuderia AlphaTauri team. We could see a lot of changes in how the team functions this time around. Hopefully, it is positive and constructive.
